Volume Calculation

How to calculate CBM.

CBM means cubic metres. It is a standard way to describe shipment volume. Calculate each package in metres and multiply length × width × height, then multiply by the number of identical packages.

CBM Formula Length (m) × Width (m) × Height (m) × Quantity = Total CBM
CBM is only one input. Freight pricing may use actual weight, volume, chargeable weight, dedicated capacity, container utilization or another carrier-specific method. Do not assume that CBM alone determines the final rate.

Is freight charged by weight or volume?

It can be either or a combination, depending on the freight method and carrier. Air cargo may use chargeable weight, LCL often considers volume and weight, while FTL and FCL are more closely linked to dedicated vehicle or container capacity.

Does CBM determine the final shipping price?

No. CBM is an important volume measurement, but route, weight, cargo type, carrier, equipment and other shipment conditions also affect the quote.

Why does non-stackable cargo cost more?

Non-stackable cargo can use more practical loading space because other freight cannot be safely placed above it, which can reduce consolidation efficiency.

Do batteries or chemicals change the price?

They can. Regulated cargo may require DG review, compliant packaging, documentation, labels, carrier acceptance and special handling.

Does refrigerated shipping cost more?

Temperature-controlled shipments may require reefer equipment, monitoring, special packaging or route-specific cold-chain capability, which changes the transport structure.

Can you give a fixed international freight rate without shipment details?

A useful quotation requires at least cargo description, route, package count, dimensions and weight. Special requirements should also be declared.
